So I thought, it’s now time to unveil the Kashinator super-hero outfit…..

Since I’m pretty dark ‘n’ scary in normal, every day, life, I figured the Kashinator needed to be a brighter alter-ego. More along the lines of the X-Men’s costumery (and as a dog with an eye for the old greenback, I note that X-Men has done pretty well at the box office!).

So, in keeping with the philosophy of Professor Xavier I am going for blue and gold… Since I’m actually, technically, already ‘blue’ (no I’m not ‘gray’) you could say I’m really just adding the gold – kind of like an Olympic Champion does.

Ready… drum roll please…. drrrrrrrrrrum

Here’s a short video clip of me in action, routing out evil wherever it may be found, sniffing out kibble wherever it may lay, keeping the highways of commerce and international trade open so that my dinner can move swiftly from the kitchen to my bowl..

OK, so it’s not the most exciting start to my career but you have to keep an eye on those kitchen cabinets! I’ve seen them devour whole cans of food in one go.

So today, I present the first famous TV sooper-hero with more than a passing resemblance to the old Kashinator…

Hong Kong Phooey?

Yep, I see a close resemblance between the Ass-Kickin’ Kashinator and the crime busting alter-ego of Penrod Pooch.. .A.K.A Hong Kong Phooey. The mop wielding, canine custodian, of the Police Department surely knows a thing about super hero dress codes. Running on TV from 1974 to 1979 Hong Kong Phooey made cartoon dogs cool again (let’s not mention the fact that it was his trusty side-kick Spot – a CAT – who was always to hand to help the Phoo-man beat back crime!

Excuse me, but now I have to grab my Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu and go practice being a number one super guy!

The UmbraPet - Pet tent

I love the look of the new travel kennel.

It’s called the UmbraPET from PET EGO who are from my home country of Italia. It’s got that great Italian styling (like all the best things in the world, obviously).

You can get them at www.dog-bag.com. I really like the look of the kennel, it’s bellissimo, but I am not sure you’re going to get me in there!

I should point out that I’m a bit fed up of being in a crate at night. I’m a big girl now and should be left out at night to wander the house and guard my 0wners. I mean, I’m a Neo, that’s what I do…

I do travel a lot though so I can understand that it’s probably best that I am shut away when we’re in a hotel (the housekeepers are not too fond of being barked at while they clean the bathroom – BTW, did I tell you I love drinking out of the toilet bowl?)..

Anyway, here’s my first encounter with the Pet Tent, I am definitely intrigued by it, I’ll sniff it out a bit first though before I spend any quality time sleeping in there! (What’s the betting I can get this sent back or chew it to pieces within two weeks?).

Back in ancient Rome, according to legend (or Wikipedia, whichever you want to believe) the Mastini were often put into the Colosseum with lions. I have scanned the old newspapers for the weekend sports results from back then but cannot find anything to say whether the lions or the Mastini won. I’m taking a guess that it was a pretty even competition as those Romans loved a good fight and I can’t imagine it would have continued for long if the lions or the Mastini won all the time or too easily.

So what would a Mastini do with one of Tuffy’s Mega Toys- their “World’s Most Durable Soft Toy”… “Tiger Tested”…

As it says on the advertising “By far the “TUFF”est toy around”.

With a rating of “10″ – their highest rating – the Mega Tuffy is designed for the biggest dogs. “seven layers… nylon… criss stitched… protective webbing… industrial grade…” It sounds tough. Mega Tuff!

Well I got one recently. First thing I will say is that I loved it. It was great for playing fetch and tug of war with. I liked it, especially the little squeaker inside…

But it has a nylon thread around the edge (that’s the cross stitched, seven layers bit) which I just started to attack. (I learned this from my blanket, it’s the weak spot you see). As I would run back and forth or tug on the toy I would concentrate my most powerful back teeth on the webbing.

So how did the Mega Tuffy stand up to a full blown Neo-ing…

Just two days.

I managed to destroy the stitching and get to the inner stuffing in just a couple of days. (Tigers must be kinda dumb).

The Kashinator

Back in July I showed you my toys, well, due to the fact that dog toy manufacturers do not make toys to last (at least for us Mastini), I don’t have many of them left. I used to sleep with my red rubber bone and my pet blanket!! Alas, I cannot any more

So what happened to the toys?

GONE

The rubber chew bone was awesome. It used to get really wet and slobbery and made a hollow popping noise when I chewed the end, which was pretty cool. I bit through the end and started to bite off big chunks. It had to go in the trash in pieces.

The doggie blanket was a great invention. It’s made of tough nylon but what held up for months for a small puppy is no match for a large puppy. I pulled the edge off and started to chew big bits out of the cloth. Into the trash it went. Bye Bye sleep blanket. I will miss you.

GOOD AS NEW

The Kong ball has survived!! In part because I usually do not bother to retrieve it when it’s thrown for me outside. This discourages my owners from throwing it! It has had a quiet few months as I focused on destroying my other toys first. The red ball has come into it’s own recently, it’s easy to see in the snow (even for a droopy face like me). However I am now big enough to get this in between my teeth so it is probably just a matter of time before I chew it to pieces too!

GOOD AS NEW

The NylaBone Big Chew is a must have toy for any big dog. It has survived and still (almost) looks like new. This is the toy for us power chewers, though watch out – it hurts when I drop it on your toes!

SAVED FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS

The rope toy was one of my favorites, but you know that. It has appeared more than any other toy in my scribbles. It is almost no more. It spends it’s days inside my dog box. I occasionally get it to chew on, but I am adept at pulling it into long strands (which disappear and then magically reappear in my poop!). It’s only allowed out on special occasions now.

GOOD AS NEW

The rubber soccer ball is a phenomenon. I love this toy. It may be one of my favorites now. I chew it, chase it, sit on it, it has survived mainly because it is really hard for me to actually get a proper purchase on it as it’s so springy. This makes it fun and long lasting.

So half of my original toys have bitten the dust… don’t worry I have gotten some new one’s in that time. Obviously my owners have been learning because two of them are NylaBone chew toys like my Bone above. I have a ring (which I have actually almost chewed right through) and a smaller bone which is good for days when I don’t feel like chewing the big bone.

I also used to have a “Kong” that held biscuits which I had to figure out how to get to…. but we lost it on the last road trip. It must have fallen on the road side somewhere. (You know when you’re driving and see shoes, clothes and stuff by the road and wonder “how did that get there?”, well someone is probably saying that right now about my “Kong”). The worst thing is I am sure it still had a biscuit inside. Isn’t that a crime?

I also just got two new toys. I’ll let you know how I get on with them soon!

Anyway, here’s the NY Blizzard of 2010 Snow Angel session!

This was before I got to go in the dog run and race around after my red ball (pretty smart huh, having a red ball for when it snows. We think of everything!).

Anyway I am over one years old now, which is seven in dog years, I thought it was time that I started to think about a career…

I’m open to a ideas, so if you can think of something that would be a good fit for a large, slobbery dog who likes to sing like a canary, shoot me a line.

I have thought about the obvious jobs, guard dog for example (I’m big n scary, but, like Fang in Harry Potter, I’m the first to run at the sound of something scary!).

So I started thinking more laterally. I mean, I’m big (and still growing), I’m a little smelly, a bit prone to gas, I like to drink a lot, I’m pretty happy to pee on the floor (wood floors preferably) and never clean up my own poop. I also drool and can spend hours talking some unintelligible whiney noise that sounds like some kind of drunken singing. Where would someone like me fit in?

I gave it a lot of thought over a bone or two and I could only think of one option..

Yep, that’s right… I’d fit in great in a bar.

(Of course I don’t have a pick up truck and I don’t smoke – it’s hard to drive with paws and have you tried holding a cigarette in droopy slobbery lips?).

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday to me!

Today I am one years old. Or is that seven years old? I’ve heard some confusing stories that dogs have seven years for every one of human years. Being only ‘one’ (or is it ‘seven’) my math ability isn’t really up to much. I mean, I know if there are four sandwiches in my dinner bowl, and I eat one, I have three left, but I’m a bit confused by the seven to one thing we have with human years. If it’s right, why do I have only one birthday a year and not one every 52 days? Huh? Answer me that one. (See I can do simple division too!).

So I had a long lie in this morning, then went for a beautiful long walk and visited the Vet’s office to get my annual weigh in. I topped the scales at 116 llbs. Not bad for a one year old baby. I’m really gonna focus on my diet this year and see if I can top 150 llbs by summer!

Then we went home and I got to listen to the ceremonial “Happy Birthday” guitar playing followed by a delicious Peanut Butter crunchy sandwich (or four – why do things in one’s?). Check me out on the video eating two of them. I’d turn the volume up loud to really appreciate my performance in all its crunchy, slobbery, jowly splendor.

After  my birthday breakfast – I got the best treat ever. I was allowed to stick my head in the dirty laundry basket for a whole five minutes. Aaaaaaah. What a birthday treat!

Here’s to my next birthday in 52 days time!

Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday

So that got me thinking. “What do I want for my birthday?”

- A big delicious bone?

- Lots of delicious treats?

- A new chew toy that I can’t destroy in a week?

- A long walk in the country?

- A bath and spa treatment for my flawless droopy skin?

- A playmate? A big new puppy to romp around with?

That one might be kinda cool. I had a lot of fun with my new best friend Finny at Christmas. It was so much fun chasing him around. What kind of playmate should I wish for?

Gotta go now. I’m waiting for my birthday cake designer.
